Organic Certification Cost Share

Organic certification cost share rebate programs have made organic certification affordable for small producers and handlers. At A Bee Organic, typical total certification costs for small farms and handling operations after rebate are around $250 – $300.

Here’s how it works: The applicant (new or renewal) pays their certifier the fees for application, inspection, and certification and any additional inspector expenses. He/she is provided with a paid invoice for fees from their certifier and, on request, a cost share application. (Note: Some cost share applications may need to be completed online through the agency in charge.) The applicant submits the form with copies of paid invoice(s) and her/his operation’s organic certificate for the current cost share year to the agency administering the program. A rebate is sent to the applicant from that agency.

Two organic certification cost share programs are offered in 2017:

National Organic Certification Cost Share Program (NOCCSP) The NOCCSP is available to all four scopes of certification- crop, handler, livestock, and wild crop- in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, the American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the United States Virgin Islands.

Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) Organic Certification Cost Share Program The AMA is available to certified organic producers of crop and livestock in 16 states designated by Congress which include: Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.
